3
Nowadays, social networking sites allow people to post updates which even strangers can read. However, I
do not believe this means people’s privacy is destroyed by using these sites.
First and foremost, when people post an update on a social network, it is usually their decision. Most people only upload pictures or post comments they want people to see.
Also, most social networking media allow us to control who sees our information. For example, you can allow only some people you are connected with to see certain updates. Furthermore, joining these sites means agreeing to certain terms. For instance, we permit the company to access our details. If we don’t agree, we can decide not to join the site.
In conclusion, I believe we choose what personal information others see on social media. Therefore, it is not
the sites that destroy our privacy. By joining them in the first place, we are agreeing to make our lives public.
